düng

düng (དུང་) is the Tibetan word for conch shell. It can be used as an offering vessel or a trumpet. The giant ceremonial trumpets of Tibet are dungchen (དུང་ཆེན།).

düng is also a gathering of trumpeters.

düng is where the gathering occurs.

düng have been occurring since trumpets existed. A landlocked, mountainous country does not come to use seashells by accident. The ancient practice of using conchs as instruments migrated to Tibet centuries after it was common place elsewhere.

In the 20th century, the gatherings were sometimes recorded. düng records handled commercial releases.

düng happen all over the world. New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo are notable hubs. There is most likely one happening near you. If you follow a trumpeter late at night, you may well find they are headed to a düng.
